EWB-KC Fundraiser Poker Night a Success!
Written by Dustin Craig

EWB-KC hosted a poker tournament fundraiser at Side Pockets in Lee's Summit on August 22nd.  Several packed tables vied for valuable prizes and enjoyed the food and fun.  While the final tally is not in, it looks currently appears that several hundred dollars were to help support our upcoming November trip to the Dominican Republic where EWB-KC will be working to help the people of La Lima with safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.

Thanks to Laurel Hovey and her husband, Matt, for leading the charge on this first official EWB-KC fundraiser. Thanks to everyone who participated, too!

EWB-KC tailgate party fundraiser helps raise money for our trip to the Dominican Republic

On behalf of EWB-KC we would like to thank everybody for coming out for the1st annual KC Wizards game Fundraiser & Tailgate Party last night. We had great weather, great barbeque, great Boulevard Beer, and a really great time had by all. Most importantly the event raised over $1,500 that will be used for supplies & materials for EWB-KC's water project in the Dominican Republic! EWB-KC will be traveling to the DR in Nov 3-10th to install drinking water filters and implement other quality of life improvements for the residents of impoverished communities. Please visit our website; www.ewb-kc.org for more info.

Lastly, we want to give a special thanks to the GBA grill team for the great barbeque, Black & Veatch for the food, Boulevard Brewery for supplying the refreshing beer, and the Roasterie, Country Club Plaza and the KC Wizards for donating all of the great raffle prizes. Thank you!

Were going to make this an annual event so we hope to see you again next year!

All proceeds of this event will be used to fund EWB-KC's Dominican republic water project. From Nov. 3-10, EWB-KC will be returning to the Dominican Republic to partner with residents living in Bateys (impoverished rural communities), outside La Romana, DR. EWB-KC is developing sustainable engineering projects and hygiene education programs with the ultimate goal of improving these communities overall quality of life. Video: Hans Rosling @ TED Talks
Written by Dustin Craig

This is video of a great presentation @ TED Conference given by Hans Rosling, Doctor and global health professor and co-founder Médecins sans Frontièrs (Doctors without Borders) Sweden. The presentation uses global health data presented in a unique and insightfully visual way to give some context on the history of development in all nations over the last 200 years. Highly recommended and be sure to watch the ending!   Link:  (http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/140)
